  I used to run my own vacation cottage in Asheville, NC. We were the # 1 booked cottage with our agency; I worked very hard to keep it that way. I mention this because I read some of the reviews and could not help thinking that things like sand burs are simply not preventable (It's the beach) and hand washing dishes was no problem for us. The price for this house is lower than most which is a huge advantage if you live on a budget, but I assure you that this house and the vacation it allowed us was very special. The cottage has THREE (!) very comfortable bedrooms. We arrived with my in-laws, their small dog, my 6-year-old, my husband and myself. We had no problem sharing the full bath (there is a 1/2 bath in the master) and the kitchen was wonderful. The house was immaculate- the kitchen, the bathrooms, every room was spotless. I LOVED waking up in the morning to have coffee overlooking the marsh and the sunsets are of equal beauty. This is a neighborhood composed of mostly full-time residents and it is extremely quiet. My family loves to ride bikes and we were able to roll out through the garden gate several times a day, hang a right and bicycle to the main beach in about 3 minutes. My daughter is six and still not a completely stable on a bicycle, but the street to the beach had few cars so were were able to get out and bicycle daily- which she says was her Favorite part of the vacation...along with walking the dog. I was able to cook a nice Holiday turkey in the ample, new kitchen, do laundry with the large washer and dryer, cook out on the grill, shop or dine easily with the close proximity of stores and restaurants. I have to say that for my hard earned money, this was one of the nicest week-long breaks from life we have ever taken. PS- The Mermaid Cottage staff are always only a phone call away: they clearly care about each and every Mermaid visitor. THANK YOU FOR A FABULOUS, PEACEFUL ESCAPE FROM LIFE.   We were very pleased with our island stay at the Crabby Pirate! Jan was very helpful and attentive with our last minute booking, being a Holiday also. She seemed to be eager to help us with any problem we might have during our stay there. We only wished we could have stayed longer but our country store at home needed us back.   Had a wonderful time. The cottage is great very clean and cozy. The only issue I had was the sandspurs in the yard. I would have a hard time letting my kids and dog run around out there..

  The cottage is adorable and extremely comfortable. The mermaids were exceptional, no matter what the problem, they were there with a quick solution. Only problem we encountered was that this time of year, the sand spurs are blooming and there were many in the yard. There's nothing anyone can do about that problem. We just kept "de-spurring" the dogs when they came in. But they absolutely loved running from the back yard to the front yard, chasing each other. I would highly recommend the Crabby Pirate and the services of the Tybee Island Mermaids. Will definately be returning for another wonderful vacation. Thank you ladies.

  We had a wonderful time staying at the Crabby Pirate. The cottage was just perfect! It had 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths along with a huge kitchen and living area. It was just perfect! I greatly enjoyed sitting outside and watching the wildlife in the marsh.

  We come to Tybee every year - sometimes several times a year - and love it. A quiet family beach is just right for us. And always ALWAYS we stay in a Mermaid Cottage. They are gorgeous, the folks at Mermaid Cottages are super helpful, and we love them! We've stayed at the Crabby Pirate a few times, as well as others of their cottages, and are are clean, well-equipped, and cute! I love to come here to relax, write, and have some family fun!   During this trip to Savannah, my family and I decided to try a stay in a vacation rental on Tybee Island instead of a hotel and now we are hooked. The Crabby Pirate's size on the outside is very deceptive. It was much roomier inside than we imagined and we loved having an actual house with a kitchen, living room, and separate bedrooms instead of being cramped up in a small hotel room. The house was extremely clean and the location wasn't that bad. We walked to the beach and restaurants each day (about a 15 minute walk). I have been informed by my family that we will never stay in a hotel in Savannah again. I may try other vacation rentals in the future but only if they are extremely close to or actually located on the beach. Otherwise, my family would be very happy to stay at the Crabby Pirate for each visit from this point on.

  This house was great for the price. We only had a short time to stay, and would have liked something closer to the beach. A good 10 minute walk! Had to always pay for parking at the beach, but it was better than walking every time. House was clean except one bed was full of hair and sand. We had to wash the bedding to sleep in it. Great yard for the dogs! They loved being able to run in a fenced yard! The biscuits and ID tags were a great amenity. Overall, a nice place. Would stay with this company again, but would probably try to get a house closer to the beach.

  Overall, we had a great vacation stay at the Crabby Pirate. It could use some fresh paint pretty much throughout and some rocks in the driveway to keep guests from walking through a "little lake" in the parking area when it rains, but it was in a nice, quiet location where we were able to enjoy a very peaceful and relaxing stay. We loved being on the marsh because it brought back memories of "home" (New Orleans) where we lived our entire lives prior to Katrina. We had a bit of rain during our stay, but that didn't stop the fun. We spent some time in Savannah and, as always, highly recommend The Pirate's House buffet for lunch. It's really not that costly considering the food that is available, and the atmosphere is great. The Crab Shack on Tybee was the most wonderful experience and the atmosphere and food was amazing. Take it from our gang. That's coming from New Orleanians . . . and we know food!!! We brought our bikes and rode all around Tybee quite a bit. Our one good day at the beach was a little disappointing because the strong winds were causing us to get a bit "sand-blasted," but we certainly weren't hot! There's always a good way to look at things! We had a couple of problems that required intervention from the staff at Mermaid Cottages and they handled everything quickly and definitely with the guests' best interest in mind. They were wonderful. We'll definitely be considering another vacation back to Tybee and will use Mermaid Cottages again.

  Our stay at the Crabby Pirate was just what this Crabby Teacher needed to get revitalized over Spring Break. The cottage was just the right size and very clean. It was decorated beautifully and the management at Mermaid Cottages couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We rented bikes from Tim's and they are the best.   We are back home now and as we look out at a white frozen world with falling snow we have fond memories of the warmth, sun, palm trees and the very comfortable Crabby Pirate.   We had a great time; the cottage was almost perfect. We ran out of toilet paper, and could have used a scrubbing sponge for the pans. Other than that it was perfect. I will recommend you highly.

  We highly recommend this cute cottage with quiet relaxing views of the salt marsh. It was a nice vacations spot away from the main road but still very close to everything. There were several wonderful restuarants in the area also. The only downfall to this location would be the bugs in this area, bug spray, bug spray, bug spray. We did notice the bugs were not that bad unless it was damp outside, but most of out trip was rainey.

  Even though the power went out the first night, the overall experience with the cottage was wonderful. The cottage was within walking distance of the beach while the backyard provided a good view of the marsh. Amenities, especially the grill, made for a cozy and enjoyable stay.

  When we arrived at the cottage the grass was knee high and we were greeted by roached. My grandchild had sand in her bed, and the list goes on. I almost cried because I was looking forward to this vacation so much. Please know that I am not the type to complain, but I was heart broken! Sincerely, Pat Whitfield
