  • Doodlebug Cottage is a ground level cottage with carport and off street parking for up to 4 cars.
  • The entire front of the cottage is screened. Excellent for watching sunsets and people watching.
  • Lots of seating on the screened porch!
  • Rock the afternoon away!
  • Our cottage is full of original regional art.
  • Directly across the street is HorsePen Creek Marsh. Clacking Oysters, Dolphin feeding, Egrets and Herons flying, marsh grass changing colors with the seasons. And a daily sunset equal to none!
  • One block away is AJ's Dockside Restaurant.
  • The back yard is fully fenced with plenty of space to play. We also have a clothes line to hang your clothes in the sun.
  • This is 12th Street- the walk to the beach. The street walks all along the salt marsh- ideal for watching herons, Eggrets and fiddler crabs while heading to the beach. The walk to the beach is 10-14 minutes depending on how slow or fast you walk.

  • Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, view of the marsh from the windows and a full bath with shower and tub. We also have books, games and cards for family fun.

Fresh, cheerful, newly-updated ground level cottage sits on Horse Pen Creek with glorious daily celebrations of the sunset over the marsh! Dog under 40 lbs are welcome! Complimentary High Speed and WiFi Internet Service, screened porch across the entire front of home. Original Local and Regional Art throughout the home. Complimentary parking for 3 cars. 1 block to A-J's Dockside Restaurant, 6 blocks to 12th Street beach (walk is all along the marsh to Butler Avenue). Great location for bike riding! Oysters clacking in the marsh will lull you to sleep each night.

    My husband and I spent several days at the Doodlebug during a surprisingly mild week in January. The Doodlebug is the third Mermaid property we've stayed in and bedrooms were the largest of the three we've visited. The location of Doodlebug is far and away the best we've experienced. Views of the marsh were lovely and bird watching was most entertaining. The Mermaid management was superb from check in to check out.

    We stayed at Doodlebug and loved it....everything was clean, cute, the coffee was delish, the dog bones and collar tags were such a thoughtful detail. The location of the cottage we loved...great for bikeriding, playing, walking and relaxing. We had everything we needed and could go to the store a few blocks away for anything else. Jan was SO HELPFUL both before and during our stay. We will use mermaid again without a doubt....and would stay in Doodlebug again happily! Thanks so much for a much needed family getaway!!

    When I rented Doodlebug, I had reservations about being directly on the marsh. Was I wrong! After spending hours on the beautiful beach (only 5 minutes walk away) with the crashing waves, it was bliss to return to the peaceful, quiet Doodlebug to watch the amazing sunsets and birds. The cottage is fantastic - large, airy, beautifully decorated, with a completely outfitted kitchen, good cable (so handy for rainy or cold days), very fast wi-fi, and excellent central heat/air. The huge front porch extends the entire length of the house, and has multiple pieces of comfy furniture, including rockers and a full-sized table that seats four for outdoor meals. During my stay, the storage room in the carport held an unadvertised beach wagon and three old bikes that worked well enough for several trips to the lighthouse. As usual, Mermaid took incredibly good care of us - they truly make you feel like you have a friend on the island.

    Doodlebug was absolutely fantastic! The house's location on the marsh made for beautiful sunsets (best watched from the front porch, of course) and serene evenings. The house was bright, cheery, spacious and welcoming. I could not imagine a better first stay on Tybee Island. I am already planning to return!

    We visited Tybee the week of Oct 3. Weather was absolutely perfect and our cottage was as well! This is our second stay with Mermaid Cottages - our first at the Doodlebug! We loved the sunset view! We loved that we were a block from AJ's. There were bikes for our use which we did use. We loved staying on this end of the island. We fished at the pier and just had an overall fabulous time! The screened in porch was perfect for morning coffee and evening reading! As always, Mermaid Cottages staff was friendly and courteous! We will definitely be back!!

    I remembered this house from the years I lived on Tybee and thought that its view of the marsh was the best on the Island. Loved the idea of rocking on the screen porch; coveted the simplicity of it. Not to mention the ease of getting my kayak down to Alley 3 for a couple of fine paddles over to Little Tybee. Now, my dreams have come true! The first visit was a brief 3 nights but as soon as I could I booked another 6 night stay. The Doodlebug rocks.

    This was our first visit to Tybee Island. Great experience! We wanted a place to relax and enjoy the suroundings. This was perfect.     The best part of the cottage was the screened in porch. My Yorkies loved it!! Every morning we enjoyed coffee, the view and a cool breeze. The cottage is charmingly decorated and quaint. The location was private and quiet and very relaxing. The only thing
    suggestion I have is to change the King bed mattress and the sofa bed mattress. The Queen mattress was comfortable. Also when I called the staff for some extra advice about restaurants, etc. my call was never returned.

    We had the most wonderful time at the Doodle Bug Cottage. the marsh sunsets were amazingly beautiful. We spent every morning walking our dogs and then having coffee on the porch. Because the temperature was around 100 degrees every day, we adapted by doing many of our activities in the morning and evening. Our dogs LOVED the porch. They spent every minute they could watching the squirrels and birds. We felt so at home in this cottage and can't wait to plan next year's vacation in the same place. The management and staff at Mermaid Cottages far surpassed the standards for great customer service. They met our every need in a very timely manner. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

    Husband fixed drain pipe under kitchen sink. It was draining into the cabinet because it had come apart. Was fine after he re-attached it. Our stay was excellent in this cottage. It took 10 minutes for easy walk to the beach along 12th street. One suggestion I could make is it to have toilet brushes and cleaner for toilets in each bathroom. The house was well supplied otherwise. Thank you.

    We had a lovely time at the Doodlebug! The privacy and views are the best! Loved the screen porch; the only thing missing is a swing. The back yard was spacious for our dogs to run around.     Loved the house and the HUGE front screened in porch was the best part! Our dogs had a great time and enjoyed the treats they had for them.... Was concerned about staying on Marsh due to critters but all we saw were people on bikes, dogs being walked by owners and a beautiful sunset. Enjoyed listening to the clams at night. Very roomy and CLEAN. Master bed could use a new mattress sunk on each side w/a lump in middle and a door to the master bath would have been great. Everything else was perfect. Would definately stay again when we visit our son at College. I can't say enough good things about the management team. They went beyond helping us find this location when we were staying at another location that had the floors refinished the prior week and the smell was causing our daughter's asthma to worsen. They found us this location and did not charge us the difference.

    We love Tybee, the layout of the cottage, screened porch, marsh, and the new hardwood floors. Items we'd change: get cookie sheets that fit the oven - those are too big, get sofa and chairs in the living area that are firm and have support, and remove the feather beds on the mattresses. That said, we'll be back next year - our 3rd in Doodlebug.

    This was a wonderful place to stay! It's quiet and clean, and the location directly across from the salt marsh was perfect. We enjoyed watching the shorebirds from the screened porch. It's within an easy walk to one of Tybee Islands best restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.
