  • Our home has off street parking for up to 5 cars. You can also park a boat and trailer on the off street driveway.
  • We have lots of areas to enjoy the beautiful yard and outside. Nothing is better then enjoying that cool Tybee Ocean breeze then sitting outside!
  • The front of the home has a porch that stretches all the way across the front. 2 Rocking chairs, seating for six and hanging ferns and flowers to make the porch even more beautiful!
  • Can't you see yourself spending the afternoon rocking away on one of these chairs?
  • How much fun is this! Sitting outside enjoying the fresh air on the front porch. These brightly painted chairs make things even more fun!
  • The ground level of the home ( the area beneath the home) has lots of space for kids to run and play. We've even added two swings ( and safety mats beneath) for kids of all ages to swing!
  • Thhis is a view of the back screened porch, steps leading up to it, the additional back yard seating and the two swings beneath the home.
  • Several nooks and crannies were created... read a book in the hammock, enjoy a cocktail with a loved one in the sitting area on the back porch with a glimpse of the back river, feast on a grilled meal on our front porch dining area, rock a baby to sleep after a long fun filled day at the beach in the rocking chairs
  • Everything in our home is bright, cheerful and designed to help you relax.
  • Captain's Quarter Queen bedroom also features a TV. The room also has family heirloom fishing poles, ships wheel, nautical art-- Captain Daniel's favorite room :) Inspired by Daniel's, our dad's and brother's career on the river.
  • Palm Paradise bedroom is a double bed.
  • Underwater Escape is a queen bed and also has a TV. The full bathroom is a "jack and jill" style shared bathroom with Happy Crabby bedroom. We also have games and books in our rooms to relax and enjoy.
  • Happy Crabby bedroom is inspired from our family love of spending long lazy days crabbing out in the boat or off the dock and coming home at night to eat a delicious low country crab boil, which was of course always followed by eating watermelon from the rhine after dipping it in the salty ocean water. :)
  • This full bathroom features a jacuzzi tub and shower.
  • The family room looking into the kitchen.
  • The "great room" is wide open with ceilings that are two stories tall. There is a TV with DVD in this room, along with the seating. This is truly a terrific gathering space for the family and friends you bring along. The original art is everywhere from one of our favorite local artists.
  • The table seats 6 people. The bar stools seat an additional 3 people.
  • The three stools allow you to sit at the kitchen bar and watch the chefs cookin'!
  • The three bar stool and counter look right into the open kitchen
  • The kitchen has everything you need to cook any meal possible! The owners love to cook and even are part of acouple of cook books published by one of our favorite Southern Cooks!
  • Even though you can cook as much as you like while staying with us, this home comes with a very special perk. Guarnateed reservations at both of Paula Deen's restaurants- The Lady and Sons and Uncle Bubbas. NO WAITING IN LIVE! That's a hug perk!
  • We also feature Captain Michael's Coffee which is Michelle's Dad. This wonderful coffee will push you full steam ahead and lift the fog from your eyes. The bag is yours to take home with you when you leave to enjoy at home.

    We loved Back River Bungalow. The decor was bright and inviting. Great kitchen area and perfect porches. Wish our stay had been longer. We had plenty of space. The bedrooms were great. Only improvement would be if the second bath had a shower instead of just tub. We would recommend this cottage to anyone going to Tybee. It is beautiful and has lots of character. It is several blocks from the beach but the walk was relaxing.

    We needed a place to live during the 5 week renovation on our home. Mermaid Cottages to the rescue! The staff were superb in recommending some places on Tybee that met our needs. And Back River Bungalow and Mermaid Cottages exceeded those expectations! Loved being Tybee girl for my 5 weeks and it won't be the last time we stay at a Mermaid Cottage.     We very much enjoyed our stay and our visit to the island. The management company was very personal and I appreciated the calls. It would have been nice if each bathroom had a shower. We all used one. After coming off the beach you do not want to sit in
    a bathtub! Since we had dogs it would have been nice to have had a small fenced yard. The house was adorable and well stocked. I enjoyed using the porches and the internet usage since we still had to work. It was nice walking to AJ's for dinner. We willdefinitely
    visit there again!

    This was the perfect place for our vacation. The property was extremely clean and well appointed. LOVED having the laundry right there and the privacy of a home. We didn't do any cooking, but we certainly could have as the kitchen was well appointed. My

    There really needs to be a shower in the Jack and Jill bathroom. 4 bedrooms requires two showers, not a hot tub. The neighbors right accross the driveway stayed up every night having parties until appro. 2:30 or 3:00 AM. I consider calling the Police several times. This would keep me from staying there in the future.

    We were so happy with our decision to stay in the Back River Bungalow. The only complaint I have was the lack of supplies. There was very little toilet paper, and no extra garbage bags. We would like to have taken out the trash a little sooner, but there weren't any replacement bags for the indoor cans. The house was spotless. The location was great - very quiet, and only a ten-minute walk to the beach.

    We really enjoyed Tybee Island and the Back River Bungalow is a great property with tons of charm. My wife and children loved the art and decor and the amenities were exceptional. The cottage created a happy home base for our stay on the island. The entire Mermaid staff were pleasant and courteous and they all really went out of their way to ensure a carefree vacation. The guaranteed reservations for Lady and Sons and Uncle Bubba's are a special added bonus.

    Overall we had a wonderful time on Tybee Island. It was a very relaxing trip filled with beautiful sunny days, southern hospitality and lots of great local seafood. The location was nice and peaceful yet a very doable walk to the beach even with kids; the decorations/amenities of the Back River Bungalow were very charming. As to the cleanliness, while the interior was clean and well kept, we spent a few hours one afternoon cleaning the outdoor furniture and porches so that it would be usable. Other than that, our stay was great. Thank you

    My mom, two sisters, and I took a girls' holiday on Tybee Island. Back River Bungalow was so very nice. We loved to stay there. We loved being on both Tybee and visiting Savannah. We ate at both Paula Deen restaurants and really enjoyed them. The Mermaids were so great - accommodating, helpful, and fun every time we had any contact with any of them. They went out of their way to give us directions to places we wanted to see. We have let friends and family know what an amazing setting you provide for a fun, fun, fun vacation. We want to come back...
