  • Our vintage cottage just 2 blocks back from the beach and downtown Tybee. Pet friendly!
  • This is the front yard and screened/ glassed in front porch. Ground level cottage makes this very easy to get around.
  • The cottage sits on a corner lot and has plenty of off street parking on the side and front of the cottage. The back yard is fenced in and great for kids and dogs to play.
  • The entrance to the front screened/ glassed in porch.
  • This door leads into the kitchen and is the main entrance our guests use. This is also where the lock box for the cottage.
  • The shutters on the outside and the little details like this old bell add to the great charm of this cottage.
  • The cottage sits on the corner of 16th and 2nd Ave. This is the view looking towards downtown Tybee and the beach. All the shops/ restaurants, fishing pier, Tybee Marine Science Center- all a two block walk away. Yet the cottage is still in a residential area and lovely and quiet.
  • The back yard is fenced in and features a charcoal grill, garden seating and even covered carport/ seating area.
  • The old fountain in the back yard.
  • We have a table and chairs underneath the carport for your outdoor eating and enjoying.
  • The front of the cottage has an enclosed front porch with screens and windows. The room faces the east so the morning sun makes this the perfect spot to enjoy your cup of Mermaid Morning Bliss coffee. We've added pillows to the vintage glider.
  • This is one of the things that makes our cottages so special. This beachy mobile hangs in the front porch of the cottage.
  • Our cottage is located in the south end of the island.
  • The cottage has two bedrooms- this is the double bedroom. Bright, cheerful and very very relaxing. The art is vintage pictures we found in some local "treasure " stores!
  • The vintage light and one of the vintage pictures in the bedroom and cottage.
  • We found some great vintage pictures which perfectly fit this home and bedroom.
  • We found this shell light and it fits the bedroom perfectly.
  • This cottage is an orginal 1930's Tybee cottage. This door knob is just one of many orginals.
  • Sand and Sea bedroom has two twin beds. Both vintage bedroom frames.
  • Another view of the bedroom. red, white and blue are colors we never tire of.
  • Sand and Sea bedroom has the orginal 1950's flooring on top of the hardwood floor. You rarely see this type of flooring in such great shape.
  • Surf Dog picture was created by one of our local artists.
  • The living room is full of some of the original furniture from the cottage. The floor is the original hardwood with the tile on top from the 1950's. The pillows add just the right touch!
  • Note the electric fireplace. This makes the cottage cozy in the winter time.
  • Can you tell what the pictures are?
  • The pictures hanging above the sofa are orignial pictures of dogs playing poke from the 1950's!
  • The living room has an electric fireplace which will heat up the room and make it even cosier in the winter and fall!
  • Can you tell what this tv is? The tv is the original 1960's tv that we have installed a flat screen inside! So you have all the modern tv features inside a vintage tv set. How cool is this!!!!
  • These little birds live above the fireplace in the living room
  • There is a wonderful kitchen seating area that looks right into the kitchen itself. The kitchen is fully equipped ( except for a dishwasher- but it's a cottage!) so you can cook everything you need.
  • Or card playing, game playing, just hanging out with your friends and family at the beach. Memory making time...
  • The kitchen features the original curtains from the 1960's as well as a large piece of art created by Catherine Lovett. We love this large picture of an oyster basket.
  • All our cottages feature our very own brewed coffee- Mermaid Morning Bliss. Jittery Joe's from Athen's GA created this coffee. The coffee is yours to enjoy while at the cottages, but you can also buy a bag to take home and enjoy. A portion of all coffee sales goes to support Sea Turtle Projects.

We just adore this cottage. Close ( 3 minutes) to downtown Tybee and all that means- shopping, ice cream and gelato, fishing pier, restaurants and the Marine Science Center- yet quiet and residential and a haven to relax. The beach is an easy 8 minute walk as well (either the downtown beach area or the Back River Beach). We are pet friendly with multiple pets welcome. Fenced in back yard with dining area under the carport. For you baby boomers - our favorite part of the cottage is the 1960's tv which has been fitted with a flat screen cable tv. You think you're back in your parents wood paneled rec room watching "Leave it to Beaver"! This cottage is very clean, fresh and comfortable, however this is a small place. Double bed in the master bedroom and twin beds in 2nd bedroom. The bathroom is also small. If you are 6'1" or taller/ larger this cottage and bathroom is not for you. Complimentary wifi and connected DSL internet , Mermaid Morning Bliss coffee and Beach Bum Biscuits are of course included. Come visit soon!

    The cottage has all the essentials for a family of four. We got to know the history of Tybee and people were very nostalgic about the cottages from this era. The master bed was a bit soft for us but still comfortable. The location was great. We took morning walks on both sides of the island. Saw dolphins, pelicans and more hermit crabs than you can imagine. Magical!

    location was good, the place was cute the downfalls where - trash wasn't taken to the curb before we got there and was stinking. the bathroom was small which was ok but needs more lighting. fruit from the tree in the backyard was rotting and that caused
    a lot of flies, grass/yard needed a trim.

    Wonderful location and the fenced in yard was great for our dogs ( you can't leave dogs out alone, but it was nice to let them blow off some steam). Our only complaints were that the water pressure in the shower was pretty low and the two bedrooms share a wall. The Mermaid staff was great and we would certainly (and probably will!) return.

    This cute cottage was very clean and pretty much as described in the website. It is very 'vintage' which adds to the charm. Love the linens on the bed. Nice touch! We were sorry not to be able to make much use of the cute screened porch but it was much too hot. It's right on the bike trail, which we used a lot, and an easy walk to town. The cottage itself was very dog friendly. The back yard was fenced in but not too convenient as you have to go outside and open a large gate to get into it.
    Since you asked here are a few 'could improves':
    We were disappointed that when we arrived the grass was about a foot tall and was never mowed until the day before we left. We were excited to see ice cubes ready for cold drinks, but then discovered that they reeked of a dead fish smell. I had to completely scrub out the freezer before any use. The kitchen could use some EMPTY cabinets for items guests bring. There was no where to put our things. The bedside lamp was of no use because the cord wouldn't reach an outlet. And finally, the wasn't a problem for us but if you are over 250 lbs I'm not sure how it would be possible to maneuver to get yourself seated on the toilet. My husband is 6'3 and height wasn't really a problem as I had seen in previous reviews. Just an FYI.
    I exchanged several emails with Diane and found her to be most helpful. They have a very efficient payment and check-in process. I think most people would enjoy this place. This has nothing to do with the cottage but would like to mention that you have to pay to park wherever you go, beaches, restaurants, even to the park! What a turn off!!! At least from this cottage you can walk or bike most places.

    It was a wonderful escape into the past. I’m a Georgia girl living in a “Roll Tide” world and it brought back pleasant memories of visiting the coast when I was a child. The Mermaids were so efficient and the ultimate dream team. Next time I will book “early” and obtain a house with more space with at least two (2) bathrooms. This is not a slap to Sanford’s Place because it was charming and we could tell it was loved! I know there must be a story about the bathroom and would love to hear it. My only suggestion would be to fix the leaking drip in the shower. Loved being on Tybee! Everyone was so friendly and just enjoyed the laid back attitude.

    My sister, my daughter and I visited Tybee Island for a few days. We had never been to Tybee before. The staff at Mermaid Cottages made our trip so easy for us. The cottage was just as decribed and so clean. We were very comfortable. The Mermaid Cottage staff was very helpful and proactive before, during and after our trip. I would definitely seek out a Mermaid Cottage on future trips!

    first we walked into an unlocked house after dark, not a good feeling.There were sticky traps with 'things' stuck to many dishes to sort through,a lot of them were dirty (I left them in the hair was all over the bathroom.One afternoon we used the bathroom consecutaively and the toilet leaked from around seal.The outside was not maintained,this could be we were the first arrival of the would have been nice to sit on the patio if it were ready.The POSITVES, as a Girl Scout Leader I was impressed to see the 1st aid kit :) The location to the beach was GREAT and just far enough off the main street not to hear the crowds partying. AS our families first 'real' vaction (not staying with relatives)I am not sure if I would spend the money agian. Perhaps a different time of year as the beaches were the messiest I've known them to be.
    Sorry for the huge delay in replying to your requset,many things have gone on for our family since that good time away.
