  Perfect for a family of 4. Stop researching now & book the Shrimp! You will not be disappointed! We stayed 4 nights @ the shrimp. Our kids are 2 & 5. We all loved it. The beds were so comfortable & the place is so clean. I can't say enough great things about it. The park is close with a great playground. It isn't close to the beach, but we knew that before we went. Great place, great vacation!

  When we first arrived at the Shrimp, we just loved the beachy feel to it. It was really cute, cozy and homey feeling. We utilized every room in the cottage including the back porch and outside shower. (The kids loved the outside shower) Although it rained during our stay, we enjoyed our stay.   This was our first trip to Tybee Island as well as staying in a Mermaid Cottage. We were not disappointed and fell in love with the place! Looking at the pictures, we already miss it. The Shrimp was perfect. Great location, clean and decorated well. Helped to make our trip more enjoyable. Our favorite part was the outdoor shower and the hammock in the screened in porch. We will definitely be back and will stay with the Mermaids again.

  The Shrimp was in the perfect location for walks to the beach (rent an umbrella & beach chairs there). We had a great time swimming & the water temp was perfect in July. Never too crowded. We ate lunch & dinner out often, but breakfast and some dinners at the Shrimp were easy because the kitchen was well-stocked with all the pots, pans, dishes & necessary utensils. The washer & dryer saved us from having to pack so many clothes, and kept our beach towels clean and ready to go.

  My husband & I had a great time staying the 'The Shrimp'. The property was very clean and had everything we needed. The cottage was just a short walk to the beach and within biking range to the downtown bars and restaurants. The outside shower was very convenient. We didn't have any issues with our stay, and the Mermaids were very attentive, calling to assure we had everything we needed. We will definitely come back and book with the Mermaids again!

  Very pleasant experience. A small cottage that is perfect for up to four people. It may sleep six, but that would be a CROWD. The screen porch was a bit dirty, but inside was pristine. Would stay again.

  We came from outside of Philadelphia for a family get away from it all. A couple and two children, ages 13 and 9. We knew nothing about Tybee Island. The Mermaids pointed us in all the right directions to rent bikes and things to see and we had a ball. The location of this house with kids is wonderful, feet from a park with basketball, tennis, things to climb. This is the best equiped rental we have seen. My daughter has asthma and allergies and this place was very clean. I had a lot of questions and the Mermaids were quick to answer. They treated us and our needs in the most professional manner! Tybee is wonderful. We loved it and the Shrimp made the vacation a real vacation. I loved not worrying about sheets and towels. We cooked more than half of our meals in comfort. The beds were unreal! So comfortable. Thanks Mermaids!

  Our family enjoyed our stay at The Shrimp even more than we expected! The cottage is darling - decorated perfectly for the beach! It was spotless and the furniture was all very comfortable. After long days on the beach we enjoyed the outdoor shower to clean up and relaxing in the hammock on the screened in porch. The kitchen was great - had everything we needed to prepare our meals.
  We also enjoyed the location of The Shrimp. It was close to the beach (walking distance) and very close to several great restaurants! Also, make sure to stop by Seaside Sisters to pick up some of the Mermaid Cottages' Morning Bliss coffee before you leave the Island!
  We will definitely be back to visit Tybee Island and to stay in a Mermaid Cottage (hopefully The Shrimp!) soon!

  We enjoyed everything about The Shrimp! We were able to walk outside to see the NYE fireworks without fighting the crowd on the beach. The cottage is close to eveything but blocks away from high-traffic areas. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and doing laundry. Mermaid Coffee is excellent! And the outside shower was great for cleaning up after The Polar Plunge. The king bed in the master and the living room sofa were so comfortable that we wanted to bring them home with us. The only thing the Mermaids couldn't control was the chilly January weather our last two days on Tybee, but The Shrimp was still warm and cozy.

  I managed to stay at the Shrimp during a warm week in mid-December 2011. Winter is definitely the off-season in Tybee, but that also meant no lines and a beach practically all to myself.
  
  As for the Shrimp itself, after I couple of days, it felt enough like home that I forgot I didn't actually live there. The decor is bright and cheerful, the house was very clean and well-maintained, and the kitchen was equipped with all your standard utensils and appliances. Like I said, it felt like home or I was staying at a friend's house.
  
  Be prepared for some walking. The house is three blocks from the beach, but that cuts down on noise and traffic. It's also adjacent to the city park, if you need more activity space than the cottage's backyard. I'd suggest doing most of your grocery shopping beforehand--the local shops carry the basics, but the closest Walmart and Publix are about 10 miles away. And remember that paid parking is standard in Tybee; I found it easier to just walk a few extra blocks than deal with the pay-and-display meters and maybe limited parking spaces during busy season.
  
  Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend Tybee and Mermaid Cottages.

  From the moment I walked in the front door, I knew I was in for a good time. Colors galore...everywhere! I loved it. The cheerfulness of the decorating made up for a couple of cloudy, rainy days while I was there. The KS bed in the Master Bedroom was the most comfy ever, with soft and colorful linens. Great windows, easy to open and allow a fresh breeze in. The back porch with hammock was a place I spent loads of time in! The back yard is completely fenced with a fire pit and a private shower for washing yourself off after a day at the beach. The kitchen had everything I would ever need and I loved eating off a different beach-themed plate everyday! Polka dots, stripes, shrimps and lobster designs. Colorful Stemware made the champagne go down a little faster! I would never ask for more than what the Shrimp has to offer.

  I found the Mermaid Cottages staff extremely helpful in making an easy reservation and the website showed photos true to my experience. It was the perfect retreat I needed for a little getaway on Tybee Island. The cottage would be ideal for individuals, like me, families, friends getaways and so close to everything! They recommended Tim's Beach Gear who was so helpful in delivering a bike rental to the cottage and picking it up on my checkout day, it was a nice option instead of driving my rental car. The hammock in the enclosed porch was perfect as some of the days were foggy and damp, but I could still enjoy the porch and read in the hammock day or night. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was nice to have the option to play dvd's if I had chosen to bring any. Just really the perfect getaway for this exhausted mommy who needed a break in peace and quiet, time to walk on the beach and set my own schedule for a few days. I enjoyed the beach at high and low tide and felt very safe on the island. Thank You Mermaid Cottages for making this alternative to a hotel possible, it was exactly what I was looking for!! Will highly recommend to others and have plans to return with my family next time. THANK YOU!

    I' glad you enjoyed The Shrimp. We agree at times it does seem overwhelming with the parking, however, please be aware Tybee has a very small year round residency of less than 3000 so in order to accomodate all of our wonderful visitors and keep our beaches in their best condition for them and offer the best possible services, we have to charge for parking. Most of which goes back to pay for the beach renournishment (which we get very very little Federal/State funds), life guards, etc. If you find you are coming to Tybee often you may look at purchasing an annual parking pass which I believe is only $100 and is good for parking as much as you want all over the island. Thank you for choosing Mermaid Cottages and we really hope you do not let the parking deter you from visiting us again.

  This was our 3rd visit to the Shrimp and we always enjoy our stay. Love the hammock, outdoor shower, and just overall decor of this cute little cottage. So convenient to the beach, just love it. The only downfall of this trip was the fact was that the dryer was broken for the first 4 days so that was hugely inconvenient. But the Mermaid staff made sure to help us out and had laundry service for us. Other than that, great as always, definitely recommend it.

  What fun we had in this cottage. It gave us a warm, welcoming feeling as we pulled in the driveway and it took away stress and worry when we walked into it. We had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. We were 3 blocks from the beach and it was an easy walk first thing in the morning. What glorious sunrises! We plan on doing another family vacation and want to go back to the Shrimp when we do.

  The shrimp was such a charming little cottage. What a bright and cheerful place to walk into. It was clean and had everything we needed. It was located in a great location, just a short walk to the beach and some of the restaurants. we were so thrilled with the area that I called on Wednesday to see if we could stay Thursday night and Diane was great about accomodating that request.   The cottage was great. Of course being on the water is always better. We were there in the off season so the outdoor furniture was clean and ready for use, even though it was warm enough to be outside. My husband is a large man and always favors rentals with a man size recliner and a larger TV. But don't get me wrong, we had a great time and everyone was most accommodating.

  We love staying at the shrimp. Everytime we visit - we feel as if the house was created just for us. All the little touches - down to the sand buckets on the back porch. There are only a few things we noticed. The hammock hangs at an odd angle - should be placed length wise. The sofa is so very uncomfortable - no one wants to sit on it - and the wicker chairs are not comfortable either. Need a small table beside the main bathroom sink - to place curling iron/rollers/bath things. Thank you for making our visits perfect. We look forward to our visit in July - we'll be staying in the Lemon Drop Cottage this time. Thanks again. And BTW, Diane is marvelous! Pam

  The first stay was wonderful, we were told we need only bring our toiletries and our food and that the property was stocked with everything else. The first time this was true, and the lady that check on us told us if we needed anything or were out of anything, to call her, she was VERY helpful. The 2nd stay we never saw THAT lady. There was one roll of toilet paper and no garbage bags or beach towels (all things that were included the 1st year). When we called we were told "we start you off with one roll then you're on your own", and there were 2 beach towels in the entire cottage, so we had to share among 4 of us. The screened porch was not as clean, and the outdoor shower was not working the 2nd time. Had we known, it may not have mattered, but there was just a major difference in condition and attitude the 2nd year. I don't think with a hefty housekeeping fee that toilet paper and a few beach towels is too much to ask. Overall, the cottage is still cute and comfy, but the first year (2006) really built up our expectations and they weren't quite met the 2nd year (2007).

  My husband & I stayed here on our honeymoon last year. We were very satisfied with the cottage until the last night when cochroaches started showing up everywhere! We killed 5 or 6 before going to bed that night. We were honestly afraid to go to sleep there because we were so creeped out. We did think about going to a hotel but we knew we had already paid & it was late so we stayed. We had no problems prior to that. We were not slobs while there either. We thought about that but we knew we had kept the trash up & hadn't left food out & open. We weren't sure what to think! We loved the cottage until that point.
